Let’s talk about self-promotion
How often do you take stock of your successes and achievements and shout about them?
For most women, the answer is always, not enough.
A lack of self-promoting is a constant in many women’s professional lives. Leading us to downplay our roles in success or choosing not to advocate for ourselves
Learning to share our wins is vital in building confidence, growing our careers and breaking gender norms. Here’s 5 ways you can start to get into this habit :
1. Give yourself permission
Most of us struggle as we see it as showing off and sometimes assume our work will get noticed anyway. Get in the mindset of taking responsibility for this, and seeing it an empowering, positive action to take in creating what you want. And assume at work, that this is on you to push.
2. Write down your achievements and successes
Get into the habit of writing this down daily. Brilliant feedback, promotions, projects accomplished, impact you created. Collect these so it becomes a daily practice. Check all of this anytime you are doubting yourself and use this as foundations for sharing.
3. Think about your brand
At work, in your business, think about your personal brand and what you want to share and celebrate. What is your brand, what are your values, what is your why, what is your story, how do you want to show up? Think about this when you're celebrating and sharing what you've done.
4. Get comfortable with doing the uncomfortable
Share and own your successes, within and outside the workplace.
- Share your ideas and insights about the best way to do things and projects
- Showcase and share yours and team's brilliant work and results across business and social media
- Negotiate a salary rise using the impact this has created
- PR your good work ( and team's) across your organization and across linkedin
5. Project confidence
Step into your confidence and know your strengths and accomplishments.
Be willing to take risks - learn from your actions.
See possibilities or opportunities rather than failure.
Make choices every day that give you permission to own and share the good stuff and shine your light.
