Courage to create change
I built a career I was hugely proud of over twenty years. Work was an important part of my identity. But over time, I realised something was missing, and that life was way too short for that feeling every day.
I'm not going to lie, finally making that decision and then actually getting the courage to make a BIG move was really fucking hard. Moving from fear and overwhelm to action always is. But I did it, and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made ✨
And no surprise, I'm coaching so many clients around this at the moment. People feeling trapped, lost, unmotivated, unfulfilled, burnt-out in their careers. People who want more balance. Something for them. Something they've always dreamed of.
I 100% get this. It’s a really tough time and one that requires support and work to dig deep and figure out what you truly want, and why. And find the confidence and courage to actually do something about it, even when that fear is real.
I’ve been so proud and privileged as I’ve seen my clients take action. Starting their own businesses, moving into new careers OR sometimes staying where they are but with a renewed strategy. Because most of the time, just figuring out what you want and making that decisions that's going to move you towards a life you actually want, is the really empowering bit.
It can feel hard to get started. So if you’re feeling stuck and considering change, here’s some useful questions to start thinking about.
1. When you think about your work and career, what three words come to mind ?
When you think about your words and career, what words do you WANT to use
Is there a gap between what you have and what you want?
2. Visualise where you want to be in your career a year from now. What are you doing? What does it feel like? What do you want to achieve? What do you notice?
3. Map out these things :
a. Your values
b. Your passions
c. The lifestyle you want
d. Your strengths and experiences
What career aligns with this intersect?
4. Create a success spreadsheet. Reflect on how far you have come. What you have achieved. What you are brilliant at.
5. If you knew you couldn’t fail / had enough support, what is the largest change you’d like to make?
6. What needs to become clear for you to move forward?
7. What skills and resources do you need to create opportunity around this?
8. What is the worst thing you believe could happen…what’s the best?
9. Instead of either / or …how could you do both ?
10. How could you create a sense of safety as you move towards taking action ?
